Dr. Kenneth Barbour
I became a student in the Harty Bible School in September 1958. After completing 2 years at the school, I was called to serve in the United States Army. Upon completion of my military tour of duty and receiving an honorable discharge, I entered and graduated from college and afterwards, returned to HBS to complete the third and fourth year of study.
After graduation, I was appointed teacher of the second year Exodus class. My ministry as teacher was coupled with teaching at the Aliquippa Branch on Monday nights and Wednesday nights at the Main School. My Saturdays were devoted to counseling sessions with Harty Bible School students, and fulfilling speaking engagements at their churches.
My vision for outreached schools reached the hearts of HBS alumni, resulting in the establishing HBS Outreach Schools in the following locations:
- Charlotte M. Nelson Outreach Harty Bible School of McKeesport;
- Washington Outreach Harty Bible School;
- Kings Deliverance Holiness Center Outreach Bible School, North Vandergrift;
- Morning Star Outreach Harty Bible School, Clairton;
- Clark Memorial Outreach Bible School, Homestead; and
- Denver Outreach Harty Bible School, Denver, Colorado.
God honored my faithfulness as a teacher by appointing me to the position of President, Harty Bible School at its General Assembly of June 1963. I continued to serve as teacher and president of the school until June, 2010, when Mrs. Elma Young Foulkes, alumni, was elected and assumed the honored position.
I testify that Harty Bible School set three monumental stones in my life. The first stone — my acceptance of Jesus Christ at a Wednesday night chapel service; The second stone —meeting HBS classmate, Joyce Elaine Barnett; The third stone — She became the love of my life and beloved wife at our marriage in the sanctuary of Christian Tabernacle Church — Main School of the HBS, September 3, 1966.
Mrs. Joyce Barnett-Barbour, a graduate of Harty Bible School, served with me as assistant teacher. She also was past President of the Harty Bible School Alumni Association. After years of faithful service to the Lord, she was called to Her Heavenly reward in March 2001.
My testimony is found in Acts 20:24, “But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus Christ to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. “
In His Service,
Dr. Kenneth Barbour
